Ayurveda – the science of life

Ayurveda is a healing and life philosophy that is over 5,000 years old. The term comes from Sanskrit: “ayur” means life, “veda” means knowledge. Ayurveda is therefore the science of life – and much more than a medical method. While Western medicine often only treats symptoms, Ayurveda takes a holistic view of people: body, mind, soul and also the environment in which we live. The focus is on the cause rather than the symptom – and on prevention before illness even arises.

Especially in our modern world, which is characterized by stress, hectic and fast-paced everyday life, Ayurveda shows us a way back to balance and inner harmony. Through conscious nutrition, regular exercise, breathing, mindfulness and mental clarity, we learn to sustainably strengthen our body and mind. Yoga and meditation are important pillars that lead us to greater calm, stability and awareness.

A central element in Ayurveda are the three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. They describe the basic life energies that influence all physical and mental processes. If one of these doshas is out of balance, this often manifests itself in restlessness, exhaustion or physical complaints. Ayurveda offers gentle, natural ways to restore balance: with individually tailored nutrition, Ayurvedic herbs, massages, yoga and small everyday rituals.

Experience Ayurveda in retreat

As part of a retreat, you can experience Ayurveda in all its depth. Here, each day begins with yoga and meditation, followed by Ayurvedic massages, treatments and individually tailored consultations. Conscious meals – light, nourishing and often from our own garden – support inner balance. Routines such as oil pulling or herbal teas are also included. This creates a daily rhythm that brings body, mind and soul into harmony.

A typical retreat day could look like this:

Our Ayurvedic daily routine begins early every morning

  • If you like, you can be inspired by our beautiful sunrise over the sea
  • From 7 a.m. there is oil pulling to cleanse the mouth, throat and tongue of deposits and bacteria
  • Ayurvedic cleansing teas
  • From 7.30 – 9 a.m. Yoga, meditation and pranayama
  • 9 a.m. Ayurvedic breakfast
with rice porridge and cooked fruit, as well as Ayurvedic healing spices
  • Ayurvedic treatments in the morning and afternoon,
consultations, dosha determination with nutritional advice, Prana Veda Ayurveda manual and daily Ayurvedic massage treatments (Abhyanga, Kizhi and Ayurveda yoga massage)
  • 1 p.m. Lunch with kitchari and various vegetables and soups
  • 4 p.m. Afternoon tea with the group
  • 17.15 – 18.30 Yin Yoga and meditation
  • 7 pm Dinner
with rice and various tasty fresh vegetables and possibly fish

Our meals are always freshly prepared from our own organic garden and also from our local market. We recommend to our guests which ingredients are healing for their particular dosha and offer dosha-specific healing spice blends.
We recommend avoiding stimulants such as coffee, black tea and alcohol.

Also included is an excursion to our nearby waterfall, a visit to our children’s dance project and a day of silence.

In this Prana Veda Ayurveda rejuvenation and cleansing week, the massages help us to detoxify. We learn awareness and mindfulness, how to eat an Ayurvedic diet, yoga, meditation and pranayama and how to integrate these into our daily lives. This Ayurveda week gives us new resistance, strengthens the immune system, balance and new inspiration.

The effect of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is more than relaxation – it is reconnection with your natural rhythm. Many people report deep relaxation, new energy and inner clarity after a retreat. Ayurveda provides inspiration on how to live healthier, sleep better and make everyday life easier. Rituals that you learn during a retreat can be easily integrated into your life at home.

Whether you want to understand your doshas better, strengthen your health or simply relax deeply – Ayurveda opens doors for you. It is a path to greater serenity, mindfulness and inner balance.
