Somatic Yoga

Somatic Yoga

Somatic Yoga is a gentle, mindful form of yoga that aims to regulate the nervous system and strengthen the connection between body and mind. Unlike more dynamic styles of yoga, the focus is less on the external shape of the poses and more on the conscious awareness of internal body sensations. Through slow, flowing movements, breathwork, and intentional attention, the practice develops what is known as somatic awareness—the ability to sense and feel the body from within.

This practice directly influences the autonomic nervous system. In everyday life, many people spend a significant amount of time in a state of heightened activation of the sympathetic nervous system, often referred to as the “fight-or-flight” mode. Somatic Yoga helps activate the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system, which is responsible for rest, recovery, and healing. Through gentle movements, conscious breathing, and the awareness of tension and relaxation patterns, the body can learn to release stress responses and return to a state of safety and balance.

A regular somatic yoga practice can help release chronic muscular tension, improve body awareness, and strengthen both emotional and physical resilience. Especially for people experiencing high levels of stress, nervous system dysregulation, or recovering from challenging experiences, Somatic Yoga can be a powerful way to calm the body and support long-term nervous system regulation. 🧘‍♀️🌿
